Capture and Categorize ideas quickly before Converting to a mind map for further development…
We’re delighted to introduce Biggerplate Brainstorm - a new tool to help you quickly capture and organise messy, unstructured thinking before you build and develop further in your favourite mind mapping software. Built to reflect how real brainstorming should work, this pre-mind mapping tool will help get ideas out of your head, reveal the underlying themes (categories), and provide scaffolding for further thinking and future mind mapping. When you don’t yet know what your mind map structure needs to be, and when you don’t want your thinking to be anchored by pre-defined mind map templates and topic headings, Biggerplate Brainstorm is here to help you focus on capturing ideas and letting structure emerge!
Limited Launch Offer:
Unlimited use of Biggerplate Brainstorm is now included with Biggerplate Plus membership at no extra cost. Not a Biggerplate Plus member yet? Use discount code LAUNCH20 to save 20% on membership upgrades (offer ends 30 Sep 2026).
How does it work?
Real brainstorming starts fast and unstructured, and our Brainstorm tool reflects this. The tool helps you you Capture fast, Categorize easily, and Convert to Mind Map for next stage development.
Fast Capture
Fast keyboard input to quickly capture ideas... worry about structure later.
Like sticking post-it notes on the wall, the goal here is to get ideas and information out of your mind, and into a canvas where you can see what you’ve got. Using simple, fast, keyboard entry, you can drop ideas into the “Ideas” pile, without thinking about what they mean, where they go, or how that fits into a bigger picture.

Becoming an Evil Supervillain is no easy task.
We’ll start by brainstorming the first things that come to mind…
Categorize Easily
Drag and drop ideas into categories as themes emerge...
Once you’ve captured a few ideas you may start to see certain themes emerging, so you can now create Categories and drag ideas within them. Your goal should be to move everything from the ‘Ideas’ column into a named category. As you do this, the category headings are likely to prompt other ideas, and so you capture them too, and drag where they belong.

After capturing lots of ideas, we’ve started to Categorize in terms of Transport, Branding, Real Estate, People, and Animals. All essential considerations for the aspiring global supervillain.
As your categories and ideas grow, you may realise that certain categories are actually part of a higher level topic, and so you can even move categories within categories, to create a simple nested structure that further organises your thinking.

Our “People” Category has been broken down into subcategories of “Operational” and “Inspirational” to provide further structure for our evil thinking.
Convert to Mind Map
Through a simple process of quickly capturing and categorizing ideas in Biggerplate Brainstorm, you’ve also provided the foundational structure for a mind map, and you can simply click ‘Convert’ to see your thinking in a visual mind map format.

From here, you can export the image to PNG or PDF, or export as a MindManager file to import into your favourite mind mapping software for editing and development. (MindManager export requires Biggerplate Plus membership).
A fast, simple way to go from unstructured early thinking to a coherent visual mind map: Capture > Categorize > Convert.
