Tocharian Language Timeline

The Tocharian languages were among the last Indo-European languages to be (re)discovered.

This discovery came as a surprise to many, not in the last place due to its location in modern-day China. Moreover, Tocharian contradicted the widespread belief that centum-languages were spoken in the west of the Indo-European speaking world and satəm-languages in the east: Tocharian is a centum language spoken further to the east than any satəm-language.
