We can overcome our fear of writing by bringing it closer to speaking. Most of us have very little difficulty speaking, at least in private with family or friends. Speaking sometimes becomes more difficult: when you need to say something unpleasant or awkward to someone, for example; when you need to speak in public. And on those occasions, you might turn to the written word: perhaps you send a text or an email when speaking would be embarrassing, or you write notes to help you make a presentation. When we start writing, it feels different from speaking. And that's hardly surprising as writing differs from speaking in many ways.
