KNOWING YOUR PROJECT SPONSOR

Projects often fail at the very beginning! Poor communication, failure to listen and lack of understanding usually let projects down. The unique environment for project success needs to exhibit co-operation and open communication in order to succeed. The purpose of this template is to open communication channels between the Project Manager and Sponsor. This assists in establishing a solid foundation for the projects future and at the same time develops a rapport between the parties involved by gaining a detailed understanding of the specific project requests and requirements. Contained in the template are a series of critical questions. These will allow both parties to develop a clear understanding of the nature of the project. During this formation period, attempt to gauge the Sponsor’s personality and style. Is this person clear/precise or unclear/soft? Each personality type and style will provide a unique set of benefits/challenges. Establishing this early will allow problems to be avoided as the Project Manager work’s with this in mind.
