Simon Sinek, the bestselling author of "Start With Why" has a new book out called "Leaders Eat Last". I thoroughly enjoyed Start With Why, but I have to say I found Leaders Eat Last to be even more profound. In the first book, he touched on the connection between leadership and biology. But in Leaders Eat Last he provides a more in-depth discussion. One area of the book I found particularly enlightening was the discussion about five hormones that all human beings share -- and how there is a connection between these hormones, successful people, and successful organizations. He divides the first four hormones into two categories: Selfish hormones (Endorphins and Dopamine) and Selfless hormones (Serotonin and Oxytocin). By "Selfish" he means they are generated by you, by your actions. However, Selfless hormones require a connection with others. In order to "feel" selfless hormones others have to be involved. Sinek calls the last hormone the "Big C" for Cortisol. This mindmap highlights the 5 chemicals we all share with brief descriptions of each.
